Northwest Leaf Budtender of the Month: Evie Peter
Parlour is a bit of a newcomer to the Cannabis storefront scene in Oregon. They’ve made a strong debut, though - developing a loyal following and an excellent selection of some of the best growers and vendors in the state. All their bud tenders are well trained, amiable folks, but there was one who stood out on multiple visits to the store, and she’s our feature this month. Evie Peter is the type of Person you want serving you Cannabis - she knows the product, its effects and what the right product is for the customer’s need - all they need to do is ask!
When did you first experience cannabis?
It was in 2008--I was a late-bloomer who made the decision to get high after the traumatic loss of a loved one. I was stuck in a vicious spiral of flashbacks, depression and immense anxiety. Cannabis was everything I needed it to be; I felt happiness again. But it was more than that, I got the giggles, motion trails, the munchies and life-changing therapeutic benefits.
How long have you been a budtender, and what’s your favorite part of the job?
I’ve been a budtender a little over a year. What drives me is getting to help people alleviate chronic conditions. There’s just nothing like seeing a customer return to the store who’s found relief through one of the products we sell. Because of my own experience with loved ones who struggled with opioid addiction, I am particularly fond of seeing people reduce their reliance on opioids and other pharmaceuticals by supplementing their healthcare with Cannabis.
What’s your favorite method of consumption?
Honestly, it depends on the kind of high I’m looking for and the situation. I get more complex and nuanced highs from smoking flower (bong, pipe, joint, whatever) and that’s very valuable to me. In a group setting I prefer passing a joint or pipe of some sort - it’s akin to having a coffee break with friends.
At home, I prefer to dab since it’s quick and to the point and I can move on with my tasks quickly.
What are some of your favorite cannabis strains, effects, and terpene profiles?
I love flavorful, terpy hybrids! Namely: Diesel, Chem and Haze crosses. Headband always gives me a strong and long-lasting trippy high. Super Silver Haze is still one of my favorite sativa highs.
I actually have three favorite terpene profiles: gassy and earthy with pine, lemon and diesel; the fruity berry and lavender profile, and finally the funky cheese profile that always seems chock full of euphoria and long-lasting stress relief. Of all the fun effects Cannabis gives me, my favorites are giggles and any type of body high.
How do you find the right Cannabis for someone?
Because every customer is so unique, I find the best approach is to first find out what kind of experience they’re looking for. Most importantly, I inquire about their experience with anxiety because I want to avoid recommending strains that may trigger those dreaded symptoms of paranoia. Perhaps the most crucial guide I use is to interpret the current research findings on terpenes, cannabinoids and our endocannabinoid system as well as anecdotal evidence that will help them find the right product.
What makes Parlour’s approach different?
We pride ourselves on being question-hungry chatter boxes, always excited to chat about all things weed-related. The ultimate experience is one where you feel welcome, where you can ask any Cannabis-related question you can think of and your budtenders are genuinely excited to answer it for you, and if we don’t know we’ll look it up! We will even recommend you to other places if we think that what we have isn’t quite suited to your needs. There’s no “get your stuff and get out” vibe here--come in, grab a seat at the canna-bar, and take a load off.
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
I love to play music and my current repertoire is the guitar, ukulele, piano, flute and African and Middle Eastern hand drums. I love to be active outdoors and kayaking, white-water rafting, hiking, camping, mushroom-hunting and scuba diving. I also enjoy crafting and painting, gardening, photography, Bikram yoga, dance, hanging out at the river and some freelance modeling. Occasionally I still dress up and perform at Renaissance fairs and pirate festivals where my favorite archetype to play is the Fool.
